How to implement Direct Routing for Microsoft Teams? – Quick Guide
In previous posts we have talked about how having a streamlined and efficient communication infrastructure can improve business productivity. Through BlueSky UC Direct Routing for Microsoft Teams, you can get a no-commitment alternative to Microsoft Calling Plans or to your current PBX legacy phone system. Microsoft Teams Phone System provides the necessary tools to help organizations achieve effective communications.
Therefore, setting up Direct Routing is fast and simple with BlueSky UC premium solutions. Learn more about how to implement Direct Routing below.
1. Set Up Teams Internally
To add voice/telephony capabilities to your organization through Direct Routing, you need to have a Microsoft 365 plan that includes Microsoft Teams.
At this point you may have already rolled out Teams as the hub for your internal and external connections. As a result, using Teams within your organization makes the transition to Direct Routing even easier.
2. Do I need a SBC (Session Border Controllers) for Microsoft Teams Phone System?
You do not need to purchase any software or special equipment to deploy Teams Voice. Our Direct Routing hosted plans deliver full UC/telephony functionality, including high availability and failover capabilities, without need of a SBC.
3. Order New Numbers and Transfer Existing Ones
Thirdly, many organizations may have existing numbers they want to continue to use. So, they are able to transfer these existing numbers from third-party PBX/SBC to Teams. In case your end-users need new numbers, your Voice provider can easily request them.
4. Licensing requirements
Users of Direct Routing must have the following licenses assigned in Microsoft 365 or Office 365:
- Microsoft Phone System
- Microsoft Teams
- Audio Conferencing
5. End-user training
Once your Direct Routing migration is complete, you’ll need to make sure users are thoroughly trained on how to use Teams as a phone system.
