How to integrate Microsoft Teams calling capabilities into applications?

Sep212022
ConnectivityUCaaSHow to integrate Microsoft Teams calling capabilities into applications

A few weeks ago, Microsoft announced interoperability of Azure Communication Services with Microsoft Teams with the general availability of Azure Communication Services support for Teams users. This means, organizations can realize more communication investments through the development of applications to connect people to the Teams environment

Azure Communication Services allow organizations to:

  • Develop specialized business applications that enable calling experiences for Teams users directly within the app.
  • Create new workflows for apps that require custom management of incoming and outgoing Teams phone calls.
  • Bring Teams calling capabilities into devices that are not supported with the standard Teams client.

Moreover, by matching Azure Communication Services with the Graph API, developers can build custom communications apps for Teams users on any endpoint, with opportunities to add and manage chats, channels, and Teams Meetings, as well as server and calling bots.

How to integrate Teams calling capabilities into applications

Developers can use 2 new capabilities for integrating calling capabilities into apps:

  1. Get access tokens for Teams users with Azure Communication Services Identity SDK.
  2. Manage Teams Voice over IP calls, Teams phone calls, and Teams meetings with Azure Communication Services JavaScript Calling SDK.

Range of customer scenarios for using Azure Communications Services

Developers can use Azure Communication Services’ support for Teams identities together with Graph API features and other Azure services for new use cases:

  1. Collaboration within line-of-business applications so employees won’t need to switch applications to collaborate with people within and outside of the organization.
  2. Enhanced customer and employee communications experience including attendant consoles to call center scenarios.
  3. New industry-specific collaborative applications that go beyond the boundaries of the standard Teams interface.
  4. Single communication platform for enterprises.

If you are planning to extend your communications investment, these new capabilities can define your next developing path for 2023. BlueSky UC certified experts can help you create new scenarios and experiences building on top of the existing capabilities of Microsoft Teams and Azure Communication Services. Contact us today!
