In order to simplify the journey for user adoption, new updates in Microsoft Teams Rooms licensing and managed services were announced by Microsoft a few weeks ago.
Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro
On September 1, 2022, Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro will replace the previous Microsoft Teams Rooms Standard and Premium offers.
Teams Rooms Pro will deliver enhanced in-room meeting experiences like intelligent audio or video, multiscreen support, full-set of device management capabilities, and future differentiated value. It’s the appropriate license for the Enterprise segment and for smaller organizations with larger room counts or more advanced needs.
Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro licenses will be available on all channels where Standard and Premium are currently offered, at an estimated retail price of $40.00 USD per month and per room.
However, for small and medium businesses (SMB), Teams Rooms Basic will be also offered. This license offers core meeting experiences at no additional cost for those customers that purchase a certified Teams Rooms device. This includes scheduling, joining meetings, content sharing, whiteboarding, as well as basic security and management capabilities out of the box.
Note: Each no-cost license enables one certified Teams Rooms device per room, and customers can only have up to 25 active Basic licenses on their tenant at a time.
Update to managed services for Teams Rooms
As part of the updated licensing structure, the AI-powered platform value from managed services will be included as part of the Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro SKU with access to the intelligent device management dashboard that will be available in the coming months.
Starting October 1, 2022, Microsoft’s service engineers will no longer serve as intermediaries for the incident management workflows.

It provides 24/7 monitoring, update ring configuration, incident diagnostics, inventory planning, and advanced incident analytics.

If you currently have existing Standard and Premium licenses, you can use them through the duration of your existing licensing enrollment but can’t renew these SKUs at the expiration of their license term. However, you may want to transition to Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro SKU as soon as possible to prevent licenses from being blocked from sign-in on Teams Rooms systems.
